The Executive Director (CEO) of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Andrew Jaiah Kaikai has said amidst the troubled drug that is ravaging the lives of youth the Feed Salone dream by the government is in doubt.
“Who will going to feed sàlone,” he asked.
He said his agency in partnership with the Ministry of Social Welfare, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MoICE), Ministry of Youth Affairs has launched the first government rehabilitation center at Hastings on the outskirts of Freetown.
Presently, Mr. Kaikai said there are 39 drugs addicts who are now at an rehabilitation center.
He said among them, 26 are males while the remaining 14 are females, adding that among the females, three of them had been referred to the Sierra Leone Psychiatric Treatment Hospital.
“The agency is working with other partners, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Alcohol Policy Alliance and the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) to the develop a response to address drugs and the dangers of drug control,” Kaikai said.
Kaikai added that the President’s number one agenda is ‘Feed Salone’ while expressing concerns over who is going to feed the country when looking at the current bad status of the young folks in the country.
He noted that thousands of the youthful population is affected at every corner of Sierra Leone.
He said they have been engaging communities in sensitizations.
The Deputy Leader of Government Business in the House of Parliament Hon. Bashiru Silikie disclosed that as the people’s representatives the reason behind why summoning a meeting with the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) is for them to sit down and discuss the way forward in addressing the menace in the country as the kush drug is affecting everyone.
He suggested that if Sierra Leone is to eradicate or reduce the influx of kush the SLP should take the top stage in the fight.
