The highest decision making body of the All Peoples Congress party (APC), the National Advisory Council (NAC) will soon decide the fate of one the party’s long serving Member of Parliament in Karene district, Mohamed Bangura after he failed to append his signature towards a decision reached by the Leader and presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara to boycott parliament and stay off from and not participate from all level of governance.
The hierarchy of the party reached this decision just after the announcement of the presidential result by the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh on 27th June, 2023 which the party’s flagbearer and Leader described as skewed and the resolution was made public on 5th July, 2023.
Out of the 54 democratically elected members of parliament, 3 elected Mayors and 7 District Council Chairmen, only the former Minister of Information and Communication, Mohamed Bangura did not append his signature to the agreed resolution and this has led to serious internal dispute in the party.
According to the party’s constitution in Article 62 on the Causes for Discipline on intentional and unreasonable refusal to carry out lawful directives of the party or party officers or unreasonably flouting or refusing to abide by rulings or decisions of the party on disciplinary matters and Engaging in dishonest practices which severely undermines the party’s aims and objectives.
On Article 63 on Sanctions of the party, Mohamed Bangura might face expulsion from the party, suspension for a specified period, removal from office, debarring from holding office, fine, restitution or reprimand. And reliable sources have confirmed to this medium that the then Chairman, Leader and Standard bearer of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) may defect to the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) as he is been described a chameleon politician that barely stands the test of time as an opposition politician.
Furthermore, sources close have intimated to the Africa24 that the younger brother of Mohamed Bangura has on one of the social media handles, WhatsApp, disclosed that his elder brother had left the party’s national headquarters on Old railwayline, Brookfields before the resolution was reached and was later called upon by the Deputy National Secretary General, Lawyer and MP elected, Osman Abdal Timbo to sign the resolution via mobile phone but replied that he had left the premises and cannot return to append his signature.
However, the public is patiently waiting to see what will be the party’s next line of action if whether the then information minister will be expelled, suspended or removed from holding office is a let’s wait and see.
