Soup Kitchen a traditional charitable organization which was introduced in 1790 by Sir Benjamin Thompson, a British physicist for the purpose of providing a nutritious meal for individuals who are homeless or living in poverty is for the first time introduced and launched in Sierra Leone by the Jestina Browne Foundation. Soup Kitchen is a tradition that is known all over the world with the aim of catering for the less unfortunate.
Jestina Browne foundation also known as J.B is a memory of a dear Mother Jestina, who happens to be a wonderful caring person with a beautiful heart and soul. She was the people’s mother and a caring soul who want to see that everyone becomes happy.
In honour of her tirelessness and contribution to society Soup Kitchen was launched to provide for the most deserving needy.
During the launching at the Waterloo Liberia Camp Community, hundreds of homeless children benefited to have been served delicious good meal by the foundation; who also called upon them to be a different future leader for tomorrow by practicing with the truth.
The CEO of the Foundation Madam Jacklin Olayinka Collins revealed that she decided to work on this initiative not only for the honour of her late mother, but also to install core values and good attributes in the lives of Sierra Leoneans through the method of prayers, lecture and counselling. That shows love and care is the greatest value of all.
According to the CEO; soup kitchen is hoping to be the best and one of the most recognized institution with regards to integrity and credibility. She believes that as humans we rise by lifting others as each of us can make a difference.
Soup Kitchen is not only focussing on feeding the needy but also brings out the damage out of them through the beautiful word of God. Tell them about the dangers of harmful drugs and the things that can destroyed their lives.
Executive Director of Jestina Browne foundation in Sierra Leone Apostle Solomon Kalokoh acknowledge that soup kitchen will see to it that the rightful and well deserving ones benefit from the foundation.
He said they are starting something new but not new as the challenges will be rough and entails lots of sacrifice and commitment. The Apostle assured that despite the challenges ahead; it will be one of the rewarding sacrifices undertaken by anyone with a big heart and clean conscience can embark on.
At this stage looking at the present situation of the country soup kitchen is ever needed than ever, the apostle said. We hope to use this as a soul winning campaign through transforming lives.
A participant seven years old Adama Conteh admit that she felt so happy after many years of gracing such opportunity in her life as both the food and words spoken truly bless her day. Prayers was offered for all the dreams and best wishes for the Organization.
