On the 13th June 2024, opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara was on Radio Democracy (98.1 FM) to dilate on pertinent governance issues of the state.
He was delighted to unearth some of the peculiar issues that are presently eating into the fabric of the society.
At first, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara robustly stated that since this administration came into existence opposition members have been enduring enough suffering ranging from bullying, intimidation, harassment, arbitrary arrests and forceful repatriation without them having justice.
He continued to say that the saying of WINNERS TAKE ALL under this regime is not the issue for the country’s stagnation but the mentality of those at the helm of affairs and it is the very bad blood that results to the current political and socio-economical impasse.
He rightly mentioned that during the reign of late H. E Dr. Ahmed Tejan Kabbah because the statesman was determined to unite the nation and so he created an enabling environment where every Sierra Leonean was given equal opportunity to thrive irrespective of his or her political affiliation.
He further noted that opposition members and supporters are not enemies as the government in the last half decade had tagged them to be terrorists, or ‘coupists’ and which he said are clear indicators to ignite an unrest in the country.
He said opposition politicians are there to position the government and because of this that they must be given the opportunity to execute their constitutional mandate.
In addition, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara out rightly referenced parliament that irrespective of the challenges they are envisaging, but when it comes to issues that have to deal with the welfare of the citizens most times they arrive at a concession.
And as a result they are working in parliament together for the common good.
Furthermore, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara unavoidably illuminated on the ongoing constitutional review as he lamenting that since the government resumed the process they had not been consulted instead the government is working clandestinely in reviewing the constitution, which he said, the practice is contrary to the laws of the land.
He reiterated that if the government is sincere and is willing to work with them as a political party in waiting they would have solicited for their meaningful inputs for a national cohesion.
He, therefore, cautioned the government that reviewing a constitution is not a sole proprietorship, but it is partnership affair.
And if they failed to do the needful, he went on, posterity will judge on them all in the near future.
