The Wise Bird was at a press conference where the Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr. Tamba Lamina was talking to press-men stating that, the Ministry is working on the de-amalgamation of some Chiefdoms in the country.
The brave bird also overheard the Minister talking about power struggle and disunity in some of the Chiefdoms and that is more the reason they are working to de-amalgamate some of these Chiefdoms.
The minister further informed members of the press that there are twenty-two (22) Local Councils and one hundred and ninety (190) Chiefdoms across the country thus doing that for the Minister to gain political points. He was very quick to say the SLPP government had increased the salaries of Paramount Chiefs and Chiefdom speakers.
The Minister did not stop at that he also said government had given 45 vehicles to 45 Paramount Chiefs countrywide.
However, the Minister condemned those local authorities who levy heavy fines on their subjects as a way of making income for the government.
From investigations done by the Wise Bird shows that, out of the 45 vehicles allegedly given to Paramount Chiefs by the government, mostly a good number of those vehicles went to the south-east, the strongholds of the sitting government as a way of pay back.
The Wise Bird also noticed that, de-amalgamation of some Chiefdoms is meant to give undue advantage to the sitting government, because the more Chiefdoms will be tantamount to more constituencies in the South-east so that they will get more seats in Parliament.
It is no secret that, sitting government always have ways of manipulating the system to their own advantage.
The Minister said during the regime of the APC, APC also did de-amalgamation wherein Karene was brought into play.
The Wise Bird is asking people to think for a moment, if the APC was wrong at the time in doing what they did, should the SLPP continue to do the same bad thing?
The Wise Bird as usual sounded the views of people on the de-amalgamation, well the Wise Bird got mixed reactions from people, some were in support whilst others were against, and will the country develop in a situation like this?
