Members of Parliament from the opposition side have continuously reminded the Government of President Julius Maada Bio that “the Ukraine-Israel wars has no bearing to the unending sufferings of Sierra Leoneans’
According to MPs the sufferings is systemic and has caused families and good neighbors become enemies blaming each other’s for voting what they perceived as wrong regime and leaders.
The APC MPs have also demand equal distribution of resources to the people of Sierra Leone and have urged for the ‘feed salone project to thrive’ to mitigate the protracted sufferings of the ordinary masses.
The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Abdul Kargbo has stated in the Well of Parliament that government has given up to the exchange rate in the country.
He said government is not serious about addressing the bothering issues of national concern.
During the debate on the budget in Parliament, the opposition Hon Member of Parliament representing the people of Falaba District Hon. Mohamed Alpha Jalloh has given out comparatively the statistical data in the sub-region in terms of development.
The MP noted the government’s defense of geopolitical situations in Ukraine and Palestine which he said ‘has no bearing on the suffering of the masses in Sierra Leone’.
He made the assertion during a debate on the Appropriation Act, 2024 (Budget) while raising series of questions on the 2024 budget in the area of projects implementations.
He cited the construction of Roads in Falaba District, the uncontrolled inflation and the Budget deficit.
Hon Jalloh acknowledged that the people of Falaba District have been deceived by the government for allocating a pittance fund for the allocation of roads for the district.
The MP said that the fund is a deception to the people of Falaba District and went on to advocate for more funds to kick-start road projects in the district.
The firebrand MP asked ‘How we neither connect way Guinea and Liberia nor connect?’
He informed the House that the current budget deficit of the country is very high and advised that measures be put in place to address them.
“This Government has lost the war on fiscal management” he asserted.
The MP during the debate then referred to the budget as a “Killer budget” estimate and noted that the government wanted to kill its citizens before they feed them, viz a viz the imposition of a 5% tax on rice before the implementation of the “Feed Salone project”.
The MP calls for financial discipline to address the economic crisis.
“Why do we budget to spend more than what we have?” he asked the House.
He concludes by asking the government for the provision of basic amenities for its citizens.
The Member of Parliament from Kambia District, Abdul Karim Kamara has also stated that the government is not serious on mitigating the sufferings of the masses.
He said the people of Sierra Leone are undergoing so much sufferings raging from inflations, lack of adequate electricity, high cost of food and nonfood commodities, political threat among many others,
