The Minister of Planning and Economic Development Kenya Barlay has said in Freetown that the government of Sierra Leone needs twelve billion five hundred million United States dollars (US$12.5Bn).
The money is needed for government to implement projects indicated in the National Medium Term Development plan that was launched two days ago by President Julius Maada Bio on Tuesday January 30th 2024.
She said government has a financing gap of US2.56Bn, adding that her ministry and that of the Ministry of Finance are engaging development partners to address the financial gap.
The National Medium Term Development Plan 2024- 2030: “A Transformative Acceleration Agenda for Food Security, Human Capital Development, and Job Creation, was put together after extensive engagements with development partners and all stakeholders at district level.
The document listed forty two (42) projects to undertake that the government and development partners intend to implement the middle term development plan across the country.
The Chairman of the Planning and Economic Development Committee in Parliament, Hon. Peter Yamba Koroma, assured the audience of their commitment to work with the government to implement the projects highlighted in the document.
He called for pace and national cohesion, noting that the paramount chiefs have a major role to play in the actualizing the national development plan.
