International friendlies matches are key requirements in global soccer, so it is good news as home based players, backroom staff and supporters of the men’s senior national team-Leone stars-have on Friday October 20th 2023 safely returned in Freetown following a successful week of campaign and training in Casablanca, Morocco in an international ground.
All foreign players have also departed from Casablanca for their respective destinations of clubs in Europe and Asia.
During the said campaign and in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in Casablanca, the team had two friendly encounters against their Beninese and Somalis counterparts.
The first match against Benin ended in a dramatic one all-draw whilst; Leone Stars’ second encounter with the boys of Somalia came out as an unbelievable news, ending in a 2:0 victory for Sierra Leone.
Speaking to Sierra Leone Football Association SLFA Media unit, on arrival at the Freetown International Airport, Leone Stars Head Coach Amidu Karim said that, “the camping in Morocco may have come to a prosperous end, and preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Qualifiers continue emphatically.
“And my two assistants and I shall continue to keep a close track of both home and foreign based players with specific focus on Ethiopia and Egypt games to be played in few weeks time,” he said.
However, coach Karim expressed appreciations regarding the performance of players and sports lovers, SLFA, NSA and soccer fans, though he was aware of the endless challenges, but he added that the task was deeply puzzling based on the outcome of the first match against Benin.
