Bra Parrot was in the Central part of the City Freetown close to State House, the Almighty Seat of Power. But, unfortunately, few weeks ago, heavy storm took away the usual sitting place of the brave bird that rendered the brave bird homeless.
Almost a month now, the brave bird has been moving from place to place in search of a better sitting place.
The brave bird was about to go to Kingtom because of availability of trees in that part of the city, but the distance discouraged the brave bird to fly there.
Finally, the brave bird thought of Moa-Wharf close to PCMH hospital along Fourah Bay Road. But, before this time, the brave bird had vowed not to go to east-end part of Freetown.
Shamelessly, the brave bird, however; was left with no alternative but to go to Moa-Wharf. At Moa-Wharf, there are a lot of trees. And within the vicinity, you have a lot of traders and shops around.
The brave bird visited almost all the market places in that area to get first-hand information about the prices of essential commodities.
Bra Parrot quickly noticed with dismay that all essential goods have gone up and up at the detriment of the average Sierra Leonean.
The hike in prices of essential commodities is as a result of the Almighty Dollar and the government inability to control prices of goods, some of the traders have said.
The brave bird also noticed that essential commodities such as rice, sugar, flour, cooking-oil, onions, pepper and salt and many other commodities go up on a daily basis.
Bra Parrot is just thinking aloud that, from the look of things, it is just like the country is in a State of Anarchy where nobody is in control of things. The Ministry of Trade is not saying anything and by extension the government.
The brave bird flew to Congo-market to assess the situation and it seemed that all the traders were speaking in one voice, meaning the prices on commodities are all the same.
At Bombay street market, Bra Parrot over-heard some of the traders saying “Na Salone tiday we nor get government ooo, all-man dae du watin e lek”.
The brave bird flew to Kennedy Street market to also sound the views of people on price control and the economy; it all the same all over.
The brave bird always call things by their names—the economy is nothing good to write home about and everybody knows about it.
