The family of Hassan Gbassay Kanu have told Sierra Leonean youth at a press conference for youth to avoid kush smoking.
“Don’t kush your life,” they warned.
They said kush is devil.
Making his submissions on behalf of the Hassan Gbassay Kanu’s jr in the USA, the Executive Officer of the Transnational International Insurance Company, Ishmael Gbassay Kanu, informed that his brother and him are poised to take the fight against Kush to homes, schools, communities among others.
Addressing journalists at a press conference he told newsmen held on Sunday 25th March, 2024, CEO Kanu said that the fight against Kush should not be left in the hands of government alone.
He underscored his point that it’s only when Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad come together and put all our might to fight the deadly drug.
He said when such national issue of concern comes up, a lot of people tend to stay neutral, an action, he said, not in any way help the situation.
CEO Kanu explained that what Kush had caused to the lives of young people in Sierra Leone cannot be overemphasized.
He recalled how kush had made students from university, schools to drop out of their various programmes.
Kush has reduced youth to become thieves as they do not engage in meaningful jobs that will earn them living.
Mr Kanu stated that when such unwanted situation befalls a nation, we need to look at the root cause as to what led to youth smoking kush and what had led to their frustration.
“I don’t think any right thinking young man will see his colleagues, whose mental faculty has been derailed through the intake of kush and allow himself to be in such a situation,” he asserted.
He said community people should not create a room for blame game at a time like this, but, he said, it’s time to sit down as community and point out the things that will make the community grow.
He said there are certain things that had pushed some people to smoke and sell kush, and these things needed to be identified.
He said, going forward, the youth that are giving kush to sell to other young people need mentorship.
He said kush is being consumed by young people in many parts of the world, but what makes them to be able to reduce it is only when community comes together and fights the common enemy, which is kush.
He called on fellow Sierra Leoneans to come onboard and fight against the intake of kush across the country.
