A battle for supremacy has ensued in Sierra Leone’s law house, parliament.
There are two prominent stalwarts of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) who have been earmarked by many members of going for the top post in the well.
The two interested politicians are includes the former Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Mohamed Sidi Tunis and the the current Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Sengepoh Solomon Thomas.
Visitors in the well and some parliamentarians from both side of the aisle have seen the two politicians to be qualified for the speakership position.
One of the MPs had this to say: “Hon Mohamed Sidi Tunis have presided over ECOWAS’ parliament for the past years; so he has a lot of experience in handling the country’s parliament without doubt.”
The MPs have said Hon Tunis was known to be a man who has the proclivity to lobby both the opposition and incumbent MPs in terms of passing controversial instruments and bills in parliament.
They said during the tenure of Hon Tunis as Leader of government business in Parliament, the law house would be in decorum and most debates in the well were handled well by MPs without members resorted to boycotting.
Hon Tunis was very much grounded in terms of progressive governance especially in prioritizing lobbying for the passing into law bills and agreements that are related to the development of Sierra Leone, they have said.
Mr Tunis is also known to be a friend of the opposition and also had showed uncompromising stance in supporting President Julius Maada Bio agendas of good governance.
Hon Tunis was also described by many MPs from both sides as a philanthropy who has supported the government in soliciting support for the development of the nation and had helped the Bio administration to achieve success.
During his tenure as Leader of government business, Hon Tunis passed several agreements, bills and progressive laws.
At ECOWAS parliament as speaker, he has been lauded for his quest to advocating for legislations that geared towards maintaining peace and harmony in Africa.
Tunis has co-ordinated peace talks in war zones countries and has been able to convince ECOWAS many member states to bridge their differences to allow peace to reign.
Equally so, most MPs have also lauded Hon Segehpoh Solomon Thomas for his resilience in presiding sittings in the absence of Dr Bundu, the current speaker of parliament.
Lawmakers have said Hon Thomas is a well-deserved MP for the speakership post, adding that he has played a pivotal role in bringing the Bio regime into power in its the second term in office.
Hon Sengepoh Thomas, they said, is a season lawyer who has helped in passing many laws in parliament which have contributed immensely in changing the face of Sierra Leone.
Many have revealed that the MP has worked and is still working to pass laws that are synonymous to advancing the human capital development strides of President Maada Bio.
In terms of generosity to mankind, Hon Thomas has also been referred to as number one as he has been constantly impacting people’s lives as he gives them cash or gifts in kind.
Many viewers in parliament have also showed their admiration for Hon Thomas.
