The concept of peace has been grossly misconstrued in this country since the SLPP came to power in 2018.
Shallow minded people may be tempted to carry the erroneous categorical syllogism that, since some people who have been the tormentors of peace in this country and have come to kick out the peace from the people, the people have long not been able to see anything like peace since power was transferred to the SLPP.
However, the word peace is a relative term in this concept; while some people look at the SLPP factor for peace in Sierra Leone is just a lip service, logical thinkers believe that, there is more to it than that.
The blockade of the APC Flag-bearer at mile 38 shows clearly that, the SLPP government is not in for peace at any given time.
The government at this point in time should have put more attention on the economy to salvage the situation but that is left undone instead intimidation, harassment and victimization is the order of the day.
The cost of essential commodities is escalating at every tick of the clock and in some areas stock running out in the market places.
In Sierra Leone today, there are clashes here and there between the ruling party (SLPP) and the strong main opposition (APC) at the detriment of the nation.
All these coupled with the arbitrary arrest, detention and sometimes release at will of ordinary people and even members of the opposition.
No rightful-thinking person can regard all of these states of affairs as peaceful in Sierra Leone under the watch of the ruling SLPP government.
Most people at this point in time are demanding for a change of government not by the barrel of the gun, but by legal and democratic means.
There is absolutely no alternative to democracy. It is either democracy or nothing at all. The government in power that was elected almost five (5) years back cannot be alternated by anything else.
The three arms of government are the symbols of democracy, for which there is no dice to remove them from power without lawful means.
The only thing that is negotiable in my opinion is the Cabinet seats and that again lies with the President to do whatever he deems fit.
From the above analysis, it can be safely concluded that, the only way out of this impasse is for the ruling government to show magnanimity, all other things can be sorted out for a free, fair, credible and peaceful elections come June 24th, 2023.
Without peace in the country, elections of whatever nature are questionable. The question people are asking including my self is when will peace return to this country called Sierra Leone? When elections are just one month away, taking into consideration the tension that is building up by the two main political party in the country.
God help this nation!
