The Sierra Leone Football Association on Thursday, February 15th, 2024 warned potential candidates and their supporters not to forestall and political activity until the declaration of the date and campaign period is announced by the SLFA Electoral Committee.
According to the release, premature campaigns posed a direct threat to these fundamental principles and has the potential to aggravate tension among rival clubs in the Football Association Leagues, intensify scrutiny of referee decisions through a political lens within the football Association leagues, pose a significant threat to the Authority and efficacy of the FA, and incite violence among spectators at football venues.
They stressed that any action taken by potential candidates prior to the declaration of the date and time for election and campaigned will be done at their own peril as the provisions of the laws will be enforced and implemented in the pursuit of maintaining the integrity of the game.
They however urged to maintain the existing stability in the football fraternity by prioritizing peace and security in the football world and desisting from any form of premature campaign.
SLFA commend the enthusiasm of individuals in the electoral process and their usual participation in football matches.
