The Deputy Spokesman woman of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service, Madam Nanah Sesay, has confirmed the dismissal of four officers with immediate effect after being caught with cannabis sativa in their facilities.
Their action amounts to crime and is contrary to laid down policies.
Speaking on the issue, Sesay said these officers violated section 22(a) of the Sierra Leone Correctional Act of 2014.
She said the Gate Supervisor conducted a search on the officers who wanted to gain access into their facilities which she said is the normal trend.
She said it was during the screening exercise that the narcotic drugs were discovered inside his trouser. He said any personnel caught with drugs will face dismissal with immediate effect.
She said the affected officers were not only dismissed he was handed over to the police for investigations and prosecution before the court.
She assured the general public of their commitment to ensure transparency in their operations.
She said such action will send the message that there is no sacred cow in the institution.
