Police intercept 40ft container, confirms Head of Transnational and Organize Crime Units (TOCU) by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Mohamed Kugba Alieu.
He made the confirmation on Wednesday 13th June 2024 as he addressed at a conference held at Police Headquarters on George Street, Freetown.
He said on 30th May this year, they got an intelligence that a 40ft container from oversea had arrived at the quay but they were not satisfied with the arrival of the container.
Acting upon that intelligence, they went to the quay and asked for the owner of the container but no one showed up.
The Police then ordered for the container to be opened. They searched and saw 70 cartoons of tramadol and took them to TOCU.
CSP Alieu went on to say that the police had informed the Pharmacy Board to go and do a forensic test to know if the tramadol drugs are dangerous or not.
Also police said they searched for the person that brought the container into Sierra Leone’s port but was nowhere to be found.
MK Alieu also disclosed that they had arrested some hard-core criminals for various offences and police are investigating them.
He said the public will get the full details on the issue after the investigation.
