The Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay and the Secretary General of the Mano River Union (MRU) Maria G. Harrisson held fruitful discussion on how the Union is forming an excellent partnership with the Ministry of Energy with the intention to scale up Energy accessibility and a lot of groundbreaking initiatives in Sierra Leone.
Madam Harrison paid a courtesy call on the Energy Minister said that she had visited the Minister in order to make herself known as the new Secretary General of the Mano River Union. She further made this groundbreaking visit to have a firsthand assessment and understanding of the activities of the Energy sector, and further examine the status of existing memoranda of Understanding between the Union and the Ministry.
The Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, in his response, expressed thanks and appreciation to the Ambassador for the visit. He explained the core mandate of the Ministry of Energy and introduced strategic members of his Ministry.
He explained the Ministry’s role in accelerating access to Energy noting that his Ministry has taken the access rate from sixteen percent to thirty five percent. He admitted that he had engaged his predecessor on how to improve the Energy sector and said he was looking forward to having a more productive and constructive partnership with her in planning for the next five years.
The Minister said the country is gradually moving towards renewable sources of Energy, he also noted that the Energy sector had held several engagements with private partners and had signed Memorandum of Understanding with them. He said the Ministry of Energy is searching for opportunities to improve on electricity supply and access rate in the country. He climaxed by briefing the revered Ambassador on the means in which the country generate sources of Energy for the electrification of the country.
