The Director of corporate affairs for Sierra Leone police,, Assistant Inspector General, Memuna Conteh Jalloh on Monday 13th March, 2023 officially launched the annual crime and statistics report for the year ended 2022 at the police headquarters on George street, central of Freetown.
In her statement, AIG Memuna Conteh Jalloh stated that the annual crime statistics report is a compilation and analysis of crimes committed in the country annually, adding that they do it monthly but for their own consumption in helping them plan properly.
AIG Memuna Conteh Jalloh stated that the annual crime report gives the police the status of crimes reported whether they are investigated and when, whether they are charged to court, whether they are sent to the office of Director of public prosecution for advise and so forth. She said the report also captured the convictions and results of matters prosecuted by the police to court.
She furthered that the reason for the annual crime report is to help their commanders and predict the nature of how crimes are being committed in different policing divisions, communities and regions and to also help, adding that the crimes can be predicted that is why the police is pulling the annual crime report.
AIG Memuna disclosed that crime statistics can influence the way the people see the police if whether they are happy with the way they are being police.
She said that the crime statistics report provides information as to resources allocation, adding that police resources are not infinite and have to be placed in places where they are greatly needed.
She concluded that annual crime statistics report speaks volume of the police strategic development plan of 2020 to 2024. She added that the crime statistics is linked to their strategic development plan by the annual report.
