It has been so long spanning from Independence in 1961 Sierra Leoneans have been yearning not only for a good leader but a visionary, committed, dedicated and above all a “Saviour and God-fearing” who will be ready and willing to identify him/herself with them in time of need, share their concerns and find solutions together.
It appears however that God has finally answered their prayers with the emergence of one of the country’s patriots in the person of Prof. Dr. Prince Hycy Bull.
This tiny West African state though undoubtedly endowed with countless natural resources including diamonds, iron ore, rutile, bauxite, plentiful rainfalls, rivers, natural seaport and arable lands, yet it small population less than a population in a city in Nigeria continues to wallow in abject poverty.
Unlike many others who had entered into politics in this country with the mindset of making money even at the detriment of the already impoverished citizens, the case of Prof. Prince Hycy Bull is quite distinct, in that his primary aim is to move the country from its present state of stagnation to an enviable level where every Sierra Leonean will not only be proud to Sierra Leonean but will identify him/herself and will stay in the country where many are running away from for obvious.
How does he intend to do that?
As a visionary, Prof. Prince Hycy Bull has already identified his priority areas where he thinks most leaders have made mistakes that have led to their failures.
His first step is to adequately address the problem of young people (youth) who he said are not only future leaders but strong foundation for any country’s development once they are managed well.
The learned man said he is quite aware of the problems of young people which he insisted in not unique to Sierra Leone alone but believes once he has the opportunity he will tackle them. In his his peace message to Sierra Leonean, “I’ll make sure I engage them regularly share their concerns, including encouragement to refrain from drug consumption and abuse which has rendered most of them useless and to also stay away from other related crimes,” Prof. insists. To successfully achieve that ambitious priority, he said he will ensure he creates attractive job opportunities including skills training not in urban areas but the countryside as well.
Another priority area to deal with is the protection, promotion and empowerment of women and girls who Prof. Bull said are on his chest, given that in his words “they always bear the brunt of every odd situation.”
He said he will also make sure among other things that agriculture sector is improved by increasing production and productivity so that farmers will not only produce but are dignified in their labour because value will be added.
Like those priorities other areas will not go unnoticed as he will stride to improve and strengthened every sector including the weakened health and education sectors as well as transport and marine sectors. Prof Prince Hycy Bull’s love for Sierra Leone cannot be over emphasized as he is popularly regarded as “Salone man or Man without boundary.” He is a development-oriented man whose activities caught across the nation, little wonder he is loved by all and sundry and therefore calling for him to lead them in near future.
