The Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Member of Parliament from Lumley, Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh has urged the security sector to investigate the alleged drug smuggled to United Kingdom (UK) coming from Sierra Leone.
According to Hon Tawa Conteh, the information about this development on such drug allegation is not only shameful but also gives bad image to the country.
He said, the people that involved in this drug involvement they are well known and they should be brought to justice, citing the rampant drug influx into the country which has destroyed the fabric of the society.
Hon Tawa pointed out that, this problem of the drug coming into Sierra Leone stated when a plane loaded of cocaine come into the country years back and some of these culprits were incinerated into the prisons.
He pointed out that, the Law Enforcement Agency should be strengthen to patrol and ensuring that the country’s borders are mann preventing drugs from entering into the country.
He maintained that the security sector should name and shame the people that involved into bring drug into the country.
In his submissions, the opposition Chief Whip of Parliament who double as the Member of Parliament from Kambia District, Hon Abdul Karim Kamara (AKK) revealed the people involved in this drug cartel will not only name and shame but should face the wrath of the law.
He said the laws on Drug Act should be strengthen, admonishing the MDAs involved to brings for enactment to prevent drug abuse for the young people.
Hon AKK cited the number of casualties due to drug intake, adding that if not tackled the drug which he referred as kush will infiltrate into schools in the next coming years.
Hon Kamara revealed that in last years, kush according to the hospital information has killed over 200 youths, disclosing that these are dead bodies of young people lying on the streets and the slum communities.
He called for stiff laws to prevent the country from bring such dangerous drugs into the country, adding that due to drug intake the youthful age is perishing.
Making is statement, the SLPP Member of Parliament from Pujehun District, Hon Salia Quinton said in his village kush has killed and destroy so many young people, stating that the government through Parliament should put mechanism in place to address the drug problems of the country.
He said laws to protect young people must be strengthened and drugs importers should prosecuted if arrested.
However, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament who presided the sitting, Hon Sengepoh Solomon Thomas said the Minister of Finance should hold discussions on the drug law enforcement agency to ensure that their budget be reconsider adjustment to enforce the law on drug.
