He was a vibrant politician that made his mark as an opposition member of parliament under the Coalition for Change party after he received a hot snub by the ruling All People’s Congress party by then. He received a warmed welcome by the Chairman and Leader of the C4C party, Alhaji Chief Sahr Samuel Sumana who consoled and ushered him into his fold. He vehemently used to condemn both the SLPP and APC for being disingenuous and practicing bad governance and not fulfilling their promises made to the citizens.
In the current parliament, he has been seen demonstrating some leadership qualities by making witty statements in opposing proposals brought forward by the government that is not in favor of the people. He was that strong opposition force that lampooned the current economy, the dire hardship and the poor condition of living by the masses.
But little did the public know that Saa Emmerson Lamina is quickly becoming a political stooge than a politician. The name Saa Emmerson Lamina is the recent political jester in the political arena as he was lately seen acting on stage at the ACP/EU summit in Brussels, Belgium. Saa Emmerson Lamina is the new found mouthpiece for the SLPP party as he was spoon fed to tell concocted and confabulated stories against the EU Ambassador to Sierra Leone. The utterances of Saa Emmerson Lamina before the EU august body has spelt out the intention and ambition of the former Majority Leader of the C4C party in parliament. It has sufficed this medium to categorically state that all Saa Emmerson Lamina want is to gain favour from the ruling party for his return to parliament now that he has tasted and realized that power is as sweet as candy and an easy means to accumulate affluence.
For a one time critic of the ruling SLPP to tell the EU body that Ambassador Manuel Muller is desperately seeking for a regime change are mere words coming from the mouth of a politician that the citizens were not expecting to have uttered such words.
To the utmost surprise of the citizenry was when Saa Emmerson Lamina went further to tell the august body that Manuel Muller is undermining the fragile peace of the country by paying unexpected visit to places where by-elections are being conducted without accreditation from the ECSL. He also accused Manuel Muller of being close with the opposition APC party.
The allegations made by Saa Emmerson Lamina against the EU ambassador was allegedly well planned by the ruling party and thought it fit to use their new found propagandist made such allegations against the EU. But what Saa Emmerson Lamina failed to realize is that EU is spending huge amount of money in Sierra Leone’s election and is always eager to see a free, fair and transparent elections come 24th June, 2023. The government has been held under tight scrutiny by the EU to ensure that peaceful and unrigging elections are held in every corner of the country.
Lately, the government has been sweated by Ambassador Manuel Muller for not keeping up to international best practice in practicing democracy. The court injunction to stop the APC party from not holding their convention was all allegedly politically motivated by the ruling party. Manuel Muller has been playing the lead role in ensuring that democracy prevail and to make sure that there is a multi-party election rather just two party election.
According to sources, the ruling government allegedly wants Manuel Muller to go because there are plans of rigging the election come June 24th 2023. The SLPP is bent to make sure that the main opposition does not contest the forthcoming election. The intervention of Manuel Muller in creating a level playing for all and sundry is what is bothering the government and have already started crying foul when the game is yet to be played.
Saa Emmerson Lamina is already having sleepless nights and turbulent times in politics as the whole Kono people are now becoming bitter with him for stooping himself so low to the position of being a remote control MP under the hands of the SLPP. Maybe Emmerson Lamina and his cohorts have failed to realize that Sierra Leone’s elections are fully funded by the EU and other international partners and that is why the EU has the onus in making sure the country holds peaceful, transparent and fair multitier elections.
The SLPP government should bear in mind that EU is not voting in the forthcoming elections but want to see a level playing field for all and sundry within the context of multi-party elections. Sierra Leoneans are going vote for or against the government based on their choice and not EU will dictate to the enfranchise populace who they should vote for as president come 24th June, 2023.
Saa Emmerson Lamina must be aware that the people are witnessing and feeling the pangs of sufferings ranging from hunger, starvation, homelessness, lack of job opportunities and so forth. Therefore, the onus is on the vulnerable and suffering masses to make their choice of presidency and not the EU.
The SLPP government should stop vilifying the EU Ambassador by spoon feeding a political stooge like Saa Emmerson Lamina who is now having an albatross hang on his neck for attacking such kind of a personality like Manuel Muller.
