The economy is tough. I can understand your pains. Things are very expensive, but I want to say it is not only in Sierra Leone. The world is going through turbulent times,” President Julius Maada Bio said after being nominated as the Presidential Candidate for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) ahead of the Saturday June 24th Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Council elections.
He was responding to question put to him about the economy and the harsh conditions facing the people.
He pointed out that as a government they have done everything to cushion the effect of the global challenge which he said bigger nations are not able to resist. He said his government has removed all taxes to reduce the burden on the people.
He said “The world is in turmoil,” adding that Sierra Leone is facing the wrong end of the saga. The President noted that his administration has gone through the crisis without scarcity of essential commodities in the market.
“Yes, the prices of essential commodities are expensive especially when the country is not producing and the freight is also expensive,” he said and appealed to the people of Sierra Leone that with his commitment made his administration will reverse the situation. President Bio spoke about the launch of the Free Quality Education which he noted has seen an increase in the enrollment of over two million school going pupils.
