The National Men’s Beach Volleyball team on Friday 1st September, 2023 presented Bronze Medals won at the Beach Volleyball Championship in Casablanca, Morocco, to the Minister of Sports, Augusta James-Teima at her Bishop House office in Freetown.
According to the Public Relations Officer, Mohamed Z. Kamara gave an overview of medals won in various international tournaments within the last five years; including gold, silver, and bronze.
He also informed A24 sports of the challenges the association is facing, including funding to take part in international competitions.
“We really need financial support from the government. Being the first female Sports Minister and also a member of the sports family, we believe our problems are over. We have confidence in you, and we are going to support you by winning more medals.” He said.
In response, the Minister feels very delighted and grateful for the contributions towards the development of sports in terms of winning medals in various international contests adding that made mama is highly Salone proud this achievement, especially in the recently held Beach Volleyball Championship in Casablanca, Morocco.
“It shows how committed you are. The love you have for your country is exceptional. You have put Sierra Leone on the map. This is what I want to see; associations winning medals, Leone Stars winning international matches, and also the Premier Clubs, etc.
‘By the grace of God, the winning mentality will continue to flourish. Sierra Leone Athletics Association was the first to win silver medals followed by you. I will take this good news to all sport lovers.
“Concerning the financial support, my team and I are working seriously towards that. We want most of the associations that are doing well to benefit from the national cake. We are going to introduce ‘association ranking’ in terms of their performance both locally and internationally.
Meanwhile, Madam Minister pointed out that this time every association should be on board. “Let me assure you that the Ministry through government will support you. Bravo! Keeps the good work,” she commented.
