The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has intensified its effort to bring to book the alleged killers of Hawa Kamara, a three year old girl who lived in Mabureh Village, Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone. They made this proclamation in an emergency Press Conference on the 14th March 2019 at their Headquarters, George Street, Freetown.
The Inspector General of Police Ambrose Sovula said a whooping sum of fifty million Leones (50,000,000) will be awarded to whosoever provide any information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators namely Hadi Bah and Selina Bah who have been on the run since declared wanted by the SLP on the 20th April,2019.
According to the Northern Region Officer, ASP. Ibrahim Sesay, on the 12th March 2019 a case was brought to the Makeni Police Station by the deceased father, Ibrahim Kamara that led to the demise of his 3 year old child. He narrated that his child was hearty and strong before the initiation process, only for him to later learn that his child was the first among the 12 girls to undergo the traditional rite which led to her ill-fate. He further narrated that a senior “sowei” member of the said society informed his wife Aminata Kamara that her daughter bled profusely during the female genital mutilation (FGM) and she eventually died on the following day, inside the sacred bush. It was at that juncture that her husband Hadi Bah was notified of her predicament which roused him to force his way into the shrine (Bondo Bush), had a bloody confrontation with them, and eventually escaped with his wife. Members of the public, Paramount chief and other community stakeholders have searched for them but to no avail.
Sources from the village told this medium that Selena Bah mother passed on few months before this tragic event occurred. She (Selena Bah) was coaxed to succeed her mom based on the custom and tradition of the Bondo Society though it was against her wish.
According to the warrant of arrest notice: CID,HQ.313/2019 Hadi Bah offence committed is conspiracy of murder while Selina Bah the actual murder.
