David Thomas of No. 2 SOS Drive Malama, off Lumley Regent Road-Freetown, son of a strong Sierra Leonean opposition All People’s Congress (APC) political member, is said to have fled to an undisclosed location due to mob justice he suffered.
According to credible sources, David was identified by supporters of the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party as a member of the main opposition All People’s Congress who was among those that resisted against SLPP during a political rally in May, 2023.
According to reports, supporters of the ruling SLPP attempted to use force to disrupt the APC rally; but met stiff resistance that resulted into a full blown chaos.
Report alleged that SLPP members soon attacked their opponents with full force and started to burn down their homes.
When the situation got deteriorated, security forces started to arrest opposition members’ indiscriminately, accusing them to have started the trouble.
Whist quietly passing by, David was identified by SLPP supporters to the Police as one of the APC sympathizers. He became afraid and immediately sought refuge to one of his friends to avoid arrest.
While in hiding to his friend, his father had gone to their party office to hide too. When David was informed that their home has also been burned down, he called his mother but his terrified mother told him not to go back home because the area was not safe.
Report went on that David secretly maneuver to hide to one of his uncles in the provinces. According to further reports, whilst in the provinces, his uncle also reportedly advised him to seek refuge outside the confines of Sierra Leone for his own safety otherwise he would be arrested once identified and believes the country is no longer safe for him.
Reports further indicated that, David adhered to the advice of his uncle and reportedly left to an unknown location.
Meanwhile, David’s father managed to escape and fled to neighboring Liberia whiles his mother after sensing further trouble also finds her way to Ghana with her daughters where they are presently staying and fear of returning home.
