Tongues are still wagging about what many perceived as clandestine visit of the opposition Parliamentary leadership to State House.
But members of the public said that the visit at State House is timely and it resonates the true leadership of the opposition to restore peace and reduce political tension in the country.
Other schools of thought say, the visit was to ensure that the ongoing trial of former President Koroma be speedily heard and justice be granted accordingly.
The meeting, according to some opposition membership, the opposition Parliamentary leadership is working towards selling their birth rights for money, adding that looking at the intimidation, incaseration and killing of APC supporters, the meeting is not worth celebrating and that it just added more injuries to the existing sore.
Others said President Bio should not be trusted because all what has happened, he never said anything good to stop the SLPP and some security forces from perpetuating violence against the APC supporters.
“We are not convinced about the visit of our parliamentary leadership to State House and we also doubt the outcome,” supporters charged.
The State House Communications Unit said, His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has received the leadership of the opposition All People’s Congress, (APC), in Parliament with the aim to discuss strenghtening governance and condemned the failed attempted coup of 26th November, 2023.
Leader of the opposition in Parliament, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, on behalf of his colleagues, expressed gratitude to President Bio for meeting with them at a crucial time like this in the country’s governance and admiration for his leadership style.
He said they wanted the government to succeed at all costs and used the opportunity to condemn the 26th November, 2023 failed coup. He expressed their fullest support and commitment to joining the government to ensure that proper investigation into the incident was done.
Hon. Kargbo spoke about the role of the opposition in governance and assured, not only to support the government but to also ensure that they hold the government accountable in the interest of democracy and development.
His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio responded by first thanking them for taking their time to visit him and for also condemning the failed attempted coup on 26th November 2023.
He said as a politician and a citizen, he believe that politics is all about ‘dialogue, dialogue, and dialogue,’ and encouraged them to learn from each other and to address their differences in the interest of peace and national cohesion.
