The former Flag bearer of the National Grand Coalition Party (NGC) Hon.Dr. Alhaji Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella is now a political wanderer who has been left in the lurch by political cronies with no permanent political abode to rest his anxious political ambitions. Much to the dismay of his political ambition is to witness the re-appointment of Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh as running mate to incumbent President Dr. Julius Maada Bio after he had audibly resigned himself from his NGC party and was desperately eyeing the running mate after rejoining the SLPP.
Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella’s political aspiration has now been vividly spelt out which is to become the next President of Sierra Leone. And he is fighting tooth and nail to hammer home his ambition by prostituting himself along party lines as he was a staunch member of the ruling SLPP party before he went to form NGC party which has 5 seats in the current Parliament and is now cross carpeting to the party he had earlier denounced and accused of transparent tribalism.
Some salient political commentators have viewed Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella as a feeble mind politician who could not stand the tempestuous political wind of President Bio during his maiden declaration to run as Flag bearer under the ticket of SLPP and now he was aiming to be running mate to his top contender. These commentators carried on to say that Dr.Yumkella has not been standing on solid grounds to see that he emerged victorious to be the leader of SLPP and President of Sierra Leone.
“Dr. Kandeh Kolleh should continue to aim for high offices not those small offices of being a Member of Parliament or yearning to be Vice President thinking of the level he acclaimed during his services with the UN,” a political analyst averred.
A popular proverb in our local parlance says that “dog dream ehn e die lef nar ein belleh” is the current situation of Dr. Yumkella who after retiring his position at the UN saw it very seamless to rule this great nation which to his utmost disappointment has not come out the way he thought of it. Some people are even saying that KKY tried to copycat the political path of Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah (now late and former president) who after stepping down from the UN was elected to be President.
The thought of many Sierra Leoneans is that their country is not a UN dumping ground or neither working under the UN is a prerequisite for Sierra Leoneans who want to lead as that has been the thought of KKY.
Some political pundits have said that Hon. Dr. Alhaji Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella died politically for not being man enough to tell the SLPP that they have woefully failed the people and would not form a coalition with bandits of failures. And he killed his political ambition for being an ally to President Julius Maada Bio whom allegedly ordered his thugs to shut the gate of the SLPP headquarters on Wallace Johnson street at KKY’s face, ordered his thugs to spit at KKY’s mother’s face and disrespected KKY’s marital wife (now late).
According to the resignation letter of Dr. Dennis Bright, former Chairman and Leader of NGC, he wrote that “his continued presence and current role in the NGC are seen as negative energy to some of his colleagues creating pathways they hope will benefit the party.” Dr. Bright said “he is giving space for those who are better placed to shepherd the affairs of the NGC.” Dr. Bright’s resignation letter was a reply to KKY for betraying the bond and trust between and among members of the NGC topple with the intention of Dr. KKY to rejoin and join force with the SLPP.
One of Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella remarkable speech in the political history of this country was when he addressed the nation during the 2018 General election and I quote “the SLPP has eminently distinguished itself by transforming itself in this century into the most naked and offensive tribal political party in the history of our country. Given the track record and legacy of these two so-called traditional parties, I call on you to deeply examine your conscience and agree with me that the APC and SLPP have both failed this nation. They have knocked and let us down.” This statement by KKY and his latest political action has made the public to believe that KKY is a deceptive politician who was trying to persuade the people with his persuasive two tongue campaign messages.
The political popularity of KKY is drastically waning due to his flip-flops in the political arena and will soon follow the line of unsuccessful presidential hopefuls like Thaimu Bangura of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP-Sorbeh) and the erudite Lawyer Charles Francis Margai of the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) who did not climb the political ladder to the acme.
