Hon Abdul Karim Kamara has raised serious concerns over the intention of soldiers to supervise upcoming examinations by Ernest Bai Koroma University.
The MP said the issue of bringing the military to invigilate the university’s exams is a novelty in Sierra Leone.
He said the issue is very important and parliament must question EBK why it is choosing to do so.
“It seems as if the university authority has lost confidence in lecturers.”
“There are bodies responsible for examinations, so it is not worthy to involve military officers in the education system,” Hon Abdul Karim Kamara expresses his opinion.
Parliament has unanimously agreed to summon the EBK university to answer questions on the matter.
It has summoned the Vice Chancellor of EBK to give clarity on the issue.
The upcoming exams are set on April 2024.
The Human Rights Lawyer, Billy Kamara esq said the decision to hire military officers to invigilate the exams has been reviewed.
And that the university’s administration had been asked to contact the Council of Principles (CPSS).
Critics say students have the right to take exams in a conducive and friendly atmosphere.
