Most African leaders today are busy creating a suitable crisis prevention plan with the capability to respond to future outbreaks and unrests. And they aim to unite the people and not to harass and victimize them at the advantage of the led. But, in the Sierra Leone’s situation, it is completely the different.
At every given time, the ruling government is busy planning negative things against the people and by extension all opposition parties at the detriment of democracy.
It is clear that the ‘international community’ has an absolute duty to assist Sierra Leone in her ardent drive to attain sustainable and ever-lasting peace.
This is so because the people of this country are justifiably proud of the role Sierra Leone had played in creating the UN a global network of countries.
The people of Sierra Leone all have the sacred duty to demonstrate mutual tolerance for one another and show practically that, they want sincere peace to reign in Our Land.
But from the look of things, our leaders today do not want peace to reign at all cost. For as long as they are in power, they are very much comfortable with whatever the situation is.
However, democracy in Africa, generally, is always threatened by violence and fundamentalism and the most serious threat being the abject poverty on Africans.
We should realize as a country that, the primary responsibility for economic and social development lies with every Sierra Leonean—whether big or small. The fact still remains that, there are individuals, in our midst in these hard times, who are fighting for democracy not to stand.
But who are the ones that still survive on corruption and other dubious means but still have the satiable feeling that these people will continue with their nefarious acts and will eventually go free?
Sierra Leone has always been dubbed as a free-for-all State, where individuals do things without due regard to the interest of the State and its people.
It must be made abundantly clear that, people should handle with care the most valuable gift God has given them which is life.
Leaders of today have little or no respect for the lives of the people they are claiming to be ruling. Nobody can afford to misuse that valuable gift of God out of mere contempt and recklessness. As we can see today, young men/women are misusing their lives.
On the other hand, there are various other forms of enjoying oneself, apart from smoking or drinking. I think it is high time government took active part in combating the drug menace. This must be in fulfillment of one of the functions of government which protecting the lives of its citizens.
I, therefore, want to admonish all and sundry to yield to fruitful advice and take precaution in doing things.
