It has been a cherished dream and a worrisome situation for all and sundry including Cabinet Ministers themselves for any reasonable and timely Cabinet reshuffle that will take place any time from now. Ministerial positions are not permanent jobs, as the Constitution of the Republic of Sierra Leone demands that, the President has the right to hire and fire, meaning all Ministers and Deputies are all daily wage workers.
Of course, no rational thinking person would have thought that, everybody was going to be satisfied more especially when the entire nation has been clamoring for a reduction of the Cabinet associated with the economic leakages present in the country.
There has also been some huge cry among the people of the north and northwest who now has only few Cabinet Ministers in the Bio led-government, and very few in the work force due to their political affiliation and beliefs.
The disgruntlement of people from the north and northwest cannot be unconnected with the treatment meted out to them by way of harassment, killings, victimization and the likes. Another school of thought is probably saying that it is because of overwhelming support the opposition have in the west and northwest during the last elections.
Say what you may, the people of this country are very peaceful in terms of thinking, and in ways of doing things.
The only problem is when elections are approaching and even as that, some of the people show understanding in doing things in the best interest of peace in the country.
The wage bill will continue to grow as long as President Bio continues to appoint people to serve unnecessary positions at the detriment of the State.
An unfortunate statement by one of West African President who at one time said, and I quote “I can only work with people I know,” meaning only those who campaigned for him and with him will have jobs, because those are the people he knows very well.
To say how the people feel, is an under-statement, it should be what are the sufferings of the people in Sierra Leone today.
God save Sierra Leone!
