An internal Memo dated 11 January 2024 signed by the Deputy Director of Human Resource; Fatmata Finda Bangura, has directed all staff that there will be a headcount meeting for staff on Wednesday 17th January 2024.
The headcount, according to Memo, took place at the State Hall by the Commissioners of the Parliamentary Commission.
The Memo stated that every staff is expected to be present for the said meeting including those on leave.
However, the Memo says, staff who have proceeded on medical leave out of the country and those who are ‘bedridden’ are exempted from attending but should send official information/apology to the HR Deputy Director.
Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) headcount meeting of all staff of Parliament resolved that 82 staff were redundant, and that all heads of department should furnished the PSC Deputy Chairman with a list of all staff in their departments.
That the actual headcount will take place on Friday, and all redundant and active staff must be counted including redundant staff and warned that those on leave must present their letters.
The meeting also stated that, the Clerk of Parliament and the Speaker recused themselves from meeting and a report on the exercise will be reviewed by the PSC for possible action.
It could be recalled that, 137 Parliamentary Staff, were sacked while some accused the Clerk of Parliament of employing his House Wife, collecting colossal amount of money at the expense of the state.
However, the Speaker of Parliament has also stated that, he was not aware of the sackings and has been very furious with his leaders in Parliament for their actions.
Meanwhile, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Hon Abdul Kargbo, has also very disturbed with the news and called for prompt investigations on such grave allegations.
Other MPs have accused the leadership of Parliament for bias sackings of experienced personnel in Parliament.
In order to look into the sackings and corruption allegations, the Leadership of Parliament, has instituted a Committee to investigate into the allegations and will come with their recommendations soonest.
Political pundits say, the Committee instituted in Parliament, will not yield any dividend because, the Clerk of Parliament, was alleged to have employed his wife and his presence in the Committee will influence the outcome of the investigations.
They therefore, called on the Leadership of Parliament to contract people outside the House to investigate the sackings and the corruption allegations.
