Bra Parrot is still making all the moves to get into the bottom of the present state of affairs in respect of the pending paramount chieftaincy election in Ribbi chiefdom.
The wise bird is curious to know because he has made to understand that, in 2021 the Treasury Clerk Mr. Henry Mansaray allegedly collected the sum of approximately NLe75m on behalf of the chiefdom and the money was said to have been deposited in the chiefdom’s bank account in at the district headquarter in Moyamba town.
Upon further investigation by the patriotic and nationalistic bird, it was revealed that, the money was never deposited in that account and no record was available to prove it.
The wise bird was in the chiefdom headquarter, Bradford few days ago to make a follow up on this matter and to his dismay, the Treasury Clerk who allegedly collected the money was put under pressure to explain and give account how the money was spent. Unfortunately, the wise bird was made to understand that, the man in question had died.
But whether his death was in connection to the alleged money, Bra Parrot don’t know. That has to be proven by a pathologist.
But as the saying goes, “a dead man has no case to answer.” Following that unfortunate situation, the bird had to fly all the way to Moyamba the district headquarter town to get the fact, but unfortunately nobody was able to give the Bird any correct information in respect of the NLe75M.
So the Bird is now wondering who is to be held accountable for the money at this material time.
The Patriotic animal is very much uncomfortable if not completely disturbed with unpatriotic behaviour, more so when President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has put premium on transparency and accountability at every level.
It is against this backdrop and more importantly for the development of the chiefdom that Bra Parrot is urging an immediate probe into the missing NLe75m, who collected it, where it was deposited and how it was spent.
Meanwhile, Bra Parrot tried as much as possible to get on to the Regent Chief of the chiefdom all to no avail.
In a related development, the wise bird was very fortunate to lay hands on a strong worded petition letter dated 26th October, 2023 written and signed by some of the elders of the chiefdom, addressed to the Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, in respect of the revision of voters (TAs) list that took place in 2021 for those who are eligible to vote when the date for the Paramount chieftaincy election is announced.
Up to the time of writing of this article, the people didn’t get any word from the Ministry of Local Government as courtesy demands.
And when finally Patient bird decided to go to the Ministry to see the Minister Mr. Tamba Lamina to get the fact in respect of the letter, he was referred to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, who he understood was attending a meeting and could not talk to the wise bird.
What was good to hear though was that, the Ministry is working towards the reviewing of the Chieftaincy Acts of 2004. That makes the hard working bird very happy at least because in any case that is a little development.
The patient and patriotic bird only hope that, the Ministry will respond to the letter in the interest of peace in the Chiefdom and by extension the country as a whole.
Bra Parrot will be shuttling between the Ministry of Local Government and the chiefdom headquarter town of Bradford to get more fact on the matter.
Bra Parrot will continue with his investigation on the matter.
