The wise bird has been turning the pages of the Audit Report of 2022 since it was made a public document, and he will continue to turn the pages day-in-day-out for the people to know its content.
The wise bird was quick to turn to page 179 of the report with a caption ‘ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION SUPPLY AUTHORITY’-2022.
The brave bird noticed from the report that the authority’s receivable and payable figures increased tremendously.
According to the report, receivable and payable figures in 2022 were increased from SLE368, 995, 672 and SLE1, 209, 299,863 in 2021 to SLE 618,900,304,000 and SLE 1,586,746,387 in 2022.
On page 182 of the same report, the wise bird noticed that the statutory deduction revealed that the GOODS AND SERVICES TAX (GST) charged on electricity sales, with net amount of SLE 44,598,614.89 was and still owed to the NRA, the report states.
Furthermore, the bird noticed on the same page that a significant difference of SLE 301,790,748 with the comparative figure recognized in the audited financial statement of 2021.
However, the wise bird noticed that the audit team recommended that all monies due to NRA for GST are to be paid.
The uncompromising bird also noticed on the same page of the report that assets procured by the authority (EDSA) were not marked with identification codes for proper identification.
According to the report, a total of SLE 1,482,465.31and SLE 307, 000 was also used for office equipment only, the report also states.
The report further states that the equipment replaced were not made available for verification.
