Stakeholders and indigenes of Patifu Mayawa village, Yele Chiefdom in Tonkolili District have disclosed that the village with over 2,000 inhabitants has been without health cente for over 100 years of its existence.
Like Patifu, other 30 densely populated neighbouring villages and towns have been yearning for similar health facilities over the years.
On 24th December, 2023, the Member of Parliament representing Constituency 052, Hon. Daniel Fornah launched massive infrastructural projects in his constituency, including the construction of a modern health center at Patifu Mayawa village that has been without such facility since existence.
The Chairperson of the Tonkolili District Council and host of his colleague MPs including the former the MP Hon. Dr Abdul Daniel Sesay (Dr ABD Sesay) were all invited during the commissioning for the construction of the project.
Thousands of other community stakeholders including those from neighboring communities thronged the village to witness exciting commissioning ceremony.
Making his statement, Hon. Fornah expressed thanks and appreciation to his electorates for electing him, adding that although their challenges as opposition is enormous, but assured that he will always make sure he share with them whatever little he has.
“It’s heartrending to note that such a densely populated village like which has existed for over 100 years is without health facility. I was informed about the disturbing situation during my campaign, the MP said. He proudly added: “But this is the time for the people of Patifu Mayawa to have a modern health facility.”
He promised that he will support the construction project until it’s completed.
To demonstration his assurance Hon, Daniel Fornah announced the provision of hundreds of bags of cement, trips of sand, stones, other materials and cash to fast-track the implementation of the project amidst thunderous applauds and chanting.
The Paramount Chief of Yele Chiefdom, Chief Bai Kanason III thanked the MP for such a huge gesture in his Chiefdom.
The Chief pledged his unflinching support to the work and assured his constant monitoring of the work until its completion.
The Chairperson of Tonkolili District Council, Madam Yabom Sesay, thanked Hon. Daniel Fornah for the invitation to the village which shows the MP’s commitment to the welfare of his people.
She said the APC party made no mistake to elect Hon Daniel Fornah, adding that it was for reason she donated the sum of NLe10,000 while other MPs also donated 50 bags of cement for the same project.
The former MP Dr ABD Sesay also donated NLe 10,000 cash and pledged to equip the hospital after its completion.
The headman in the village, Chief Mr. Brima Kanu thanked the entourage for visiting his village which he said was a demonstration the new MP’s love and care for them.
According to the Chief, his village has been starving in terms of basic amenities, adding that the lack of especially health facility was the major problem they faced in their community.
He said the construction of the health facility in the village will in no small way alleviate the sufferings of thousands who are in dire need of medical attention, especially lactating mothers, pregnant women and children under the age of five.
The development oriented chairman in the village, Mr. Hassan Bangura aka Asbo thanked the MP for bringing smiles to the people of Patifu Mayawa village and its surroundings.
Bangura said the village has for a long time gone through serious health challenges due to lack of medical facility, adding that the provision of a health center will now save many lives. “I am very excited for the gesture our MP has provided for us. 100 years without health facility means a lot as have many died as a result. We appreciate our MP Daniel Fornah and his entourage especially the Tonkolili District Chairperson, Madam Yambom Sesay and Hon Dr. ABD Sesay for their patronage,” he acclaimed.
Thousands of others who also graced the occasion acclaimed the MP for his kind-hearted contributions and described him as “a trail blazer for development.”
