Sources from the corridors of parliament have informed this medium that some Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) MPs are currently are alledgely in connivance to get away Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu.
A source reveals that the plot to remove the Speaker is planned in oder for the speaker to give way for a strong SLPP MP who may resign as per law to take the speakership position.
Other sources said the Speaker’s removal is not unconnected to what had transpired in recent times ranging from the Clerk of Parliament Umaru Paran Tarawally saga down to the selection of the ECOWAS parliament representations.
Many say the so-called SLPP MPs in Parliament are unhappy about the decision of the Speaker and that they are fighting “tooth and nail” to ensure that the Speaker Bundu is axed out in parliament as Speaker.
Since the saga between Paran Tarawally and the Speaker ensured, Dr Bundu had not been punctual in the Well of Parliament in most sittings.
Other sources lamented that the Speaker is seen to be more biased these days in presiding over sittings in the well.
The sources have it that the plot to remove the Speaker will not be easy, but through diplomatic influence, an opposition to vote against the Speaker will not be underestimated.
Some of the opposition MPs who spoke to this medium on the condition of annonimity said, the plot for such a battle is not going to be like placing spoon on the table.
They said negotiations will be reached whether it is constitutional to remove a speaker at the mid-term.
Some APC MPs said they will virtually resist the plot and allow the good democratic processes in the country’s parliament.
However, some of those who have opted for the position of a Speaker of Parliament have been murmured.
Others sources disclosed that the former Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, Hon. Mohaned Sidi Tunis and the Deputy Speaker Hon. Sengehpoh Solomon Thomas are eyeing the position.
Debate on the two MPs as to who will grab the Speakership, according to sources is within SLPP corridors.
Others pointed out that the former ECOWAS Speaker of Parliament if given the opportunity will bring home the goodies of what he has learnt at the ECOWAS level while others have maintained that the current Deputy Speaker is a lawyer and he has a plethora of experience in parliamentary procedures.
It is unclear when such plot will be made public.
