Sierra Leone Football Associations (SLFA) has pledged the sum of Five Thousand United States Dollars ($5,000) and external transportation to Mogbwemo Queens as the team prepares to participate in this year’s TotalEnergies 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers in Liberia. This commitment was made in the presence of a cross of SLFA senior Executives, Vice President 1 Harold Nat-Johnson and others during a curtesy call paid on him by the management and players of Mogbwemo Queens, today Wednesday July 26 at the SLFA Headquarters in Freetown.
SLFA President assured the Management and players of the team that they will not be left alone. “We will be providing our technical and professional support to you in every step of the way”. He said.
Bidding farewell to the Champions of the maiden Sierra Leone Female Premier League, President Brima urged the team to put up their best performance and ensure qualification to the next stage of the tournament. Adding that, they are now ambassadors of our beloved country as you will be competing against other female clubs across Africa, representing not just Mogbwemo Queens as a club but Sierra Leone as a nation. We therefore also expect you all to put up your best behavior and be professional at all times with excitement, further said that, “for the first time in the history of Sierra Leone Football, we are going to be represented via a local female club in an international competition”. “Go make history and let’s all be part of changing the narrative.” He said.
According to the Head of Media and Marketing of SLFA, Ibrahim Kamara confirmed that Mogbwemo Queens have been placed in a group of four teams along with AS Mande of Mali, AS Dakar Sacre Coeur of Senegal and the hosts Determine Girls of Liberia to play round-robin system and the best team progresses to the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.
