The Inspector General of Police, William Fayai Sellu has ordered all Local Unit Commanders nationwide to rid off all ghettos in their areas of operations.
“If you are in your Division and allow ghettos to thrive there it means you don’t have the competence to continue to be there,” IGP Sellu was quoted to have said in his directives to all Commanders of the third six Police Divisions in Sierra Leone.
Updating the people of Sierra Leone on the work of the police in eradicating Kush, the Head of Media and Public Relations, Assistant Commissioner Brima Kamara said the Inspector General gave the Commanders a grace period to remove all ghettos in their areas of responsibility.
He said several raids have been conducted and those arrested have been charged to Court. He appealed to the Judiciary to do the needful by prescribing heavy sentences and fines in addition to confiscating the properties they acquired through Kush to the State.
ACP Brima said their main objective at the moment is to break supply chain. He called for the establishment of the Fast Track court to specifically deal with Kush cases.
He said they have discovered that the materials used to prepare the Kush is now being imported into the country through the airport, Quay and the border crossing area. He said they have strengthen the sea cooperation project where they have police, military are closely working to arrest kush and other narcotic drugs. He said they normally off load and search containers coming into the country through the Quay.
ACP Brima disclosed that in February they burnt down huge quantity of tramadol through the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) at Hastings.
