According to National Civil Registration Authority’s (NCRA), it has recorded a total of 834 marriages which were registered within the authority.
It reported further that of those unions, marriages by type include 385 representing 46% were Christian’s marriages while 213 representing 25.5% were Islamic marriages.
It says, 139 representing 16.7% were Civil marriages and 97 representing 11.6% were customary marriages, adding that the mediation age of marriages is 36 years for male and 29 years for female respectively.
The report further reveals that, there were 41 divorce cases registered with the Authority for the period under review.
Of these, it says, Christian marriages accounted for 39% (16 people), Islamic representing 34% (14), Civil marriage 24% (10) and Customary 3% (1) accordingly.
In area of adoption, a total of 360 adoptions were registered across the country, accounting for 43% males and 57% females.
It could be recalled that, Section 26(1) of the National Civil Registration Authority’s (NCRA) Act mandated the Authority to publish vital statistics of vital events covering Births, Deaths, Marriages, Divorces, Adoptions, Nullities, etc. on the population of Sierra Leone.
