The Principal Magistrate Sahr Keikura of Ross Road Court No.1 has sentenced Musa Kanu and Umaru Sesay to six month imprisonment or both pay the fine of five hundred Leones each to the State.
They were arraigned before the court for conspiracy and larceny contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
It was alleged on count one that on Thursday 11th May, 2023, at Up Gun, in the East of the capital city, both accused conspired together with other persons unknown to commit a crime to wit conspiracy and larceny.
On count two, the police alleged that on the same date and place, both accused stole one blue and black Samsung Android mobile phone valued at one thousand two hundred new Leones (Le1,200) being property of Hawanatu Koroma.
Prosecuted by Assistant Superintendent of Police Osman Mohamed Bangura, both accused pleaded guilty to the charges levied against them.
The file contained statements of complainant, her witnesses and that of the accused.
Questioning the first accused about the phone, he told Magistrate Sahr Keikura that on the date of the alleged incident, the complainant was in a vehicle when he snatched the phone from her and gave it to the second accused that fled with the phone.
He said after he was arrested by passersby, he tried to retrieve the phone from the second accused but to no avail.
The second accused informed the Bench that as soon as he received the phone from the first accused he went straight and sold it.
Having pleaded guilty to the charges and taking into consideration the explanation of both accused, Magistrate Sahr Keikura sentenced each accused to six month imprisonment or pay the fine of five hundred new Leones to the State.
