AIG Brima Jah ESQ has on Thursday 10th August, 2023 informed journalists about the misuse of drug in a press conference held at the Sierra Leone Police headquarters in Freetown.
AIG Brima Jah told journalists that police are trying to fight with this drug abuse, in doing so he added that, they are partnering with NDLEA,TOCCU and other institutions responsible in regulating drugs to fight this menace in our society.
He said, they are also joining hands with the regional commanders, LUC’s with senior officers in putting an end to this drug issue. He said they are proactive in handling such cases and, in doing that, they will ensure that those involved in such cases are charged to court.
He also mentioned the ripple effect it has on the youths; like bike riders, kekeh riders, drivers and street gangs are sleeping all over the places and cannot take care of themselves. That is why police is calling on the general public to use concerted effort in reporting those drug cases.
He warned that while they are providing those measures and advise that those security measures should not be held lightly. He emphasized the implications the drugs have on the addicts. He said that, that is, why sometimes the youths addicted to those drugs behave lawlessly and cannot take care of themselves.
He warned parents to take care of their children especially school going children to refrain from drug abuse. He pointed out that the SLP, NDLEA and ONS are sensitizing those importing those drugs to refrain from the importation and to embark on other legal businesses to earn their living.
He said the SLP and other agencies are busy raiding drug addicts and importers arrest and charge them to court. He pronounced out the free toll line to communicate any cases of drug abuse. The free toll line 119-100.
