The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has pledged a whooping sum of fifteen thousand New Leones for anyone who provides information that will lead to the arrest of Alimamy Mansaray.
Alimamy was allegedly caught in an act of homosexuality with a white man named Wilfred but narrowly escaped through the window at his 99 Fourah Bay Road residence in the East End part of Freetown on the 2nd March 2021.
“We are appealing to the general public to provide police with information that will lead to his arrest. His warrant of arrest number is: CID, HQ.325/2021,” says spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Brima Kamara.
Sierra Leone is among countries where practicing homosexuality is forbidden.
Reports say the SLP is gravely concerned about same-sex activities in the country and are working assiduously to bring the culprits to book.
According to his mom, who has relocated to Makeni for her safety, they have not seen or heard of their son Alimamy Mansaray since he was declared wanted by the SLP. She further stated that it is difficult for her to ascertain whether her son is dead or alive. “Homosexuality is a taboo in our family mainly because his father is a Spiritual Leader (Imam) and the public always have their eyes on us. Alimamy has dragged our family name to the mud,” she said.
His father, Mr. Mansaray, disowned him the moment the tragic story of his son was making rounds on the social media and every corner of Freetown. He has vowed to cooperate with the police in ensuring that his son faced the full force of the law even if it involves life imprisonment..
The Inter Religious Council of Sierra Leone (IRCSL) together with traditional leaders has expressed their stern position that homosexuality should never be tolerated in Sierra Leone mainly because it is ungodly and devilish. They call on the Government to implement laws against same-sex activities in Sierra Leone.
This has even sparked up nationwide condemnation by every facet of society.
