In our local parlance there is saying which states that “u nor go berrful di cow di day wae u wan sell am”, meaning that if one fails to plan he plans to fail. And this is the plight of President Bio who wants to get everything done when his time of office has nearly elapsed.
But from the look at things, it seems as if President Julius Maada Bio despite not meeting the people’s expectations continues to give more heaps of promises to gullible Sierra Leoneans. Just at the eleventh hour for him to face the exit door, the incumbent President Bio is still giving fruitless hopes to the people by fooling the masses with his unfulfilled promises.
After successfully leading the country into economic damnation with everything turning upside down, President Bio is optimistic to win the forthcoming three-tier elections hands down with no run-off as if his government has succeeded in fulfilling the wishes of the masses. President Bio is now thrilling the public for another second term of office when the average living Sierra Leonean cannot live per $5 for a day. Maybe President Bio seems to be unconscious that prices of basic food commodities are not constant as every businessman has their own prices due to over bloated tax on businesses.
The flagship program of President Bio, the Free and Quality School Education (FQSE) program is being considered as a white elephant because most of the goodies President Bio said were in the FQSE package did not meet the end users who are the school going children. He promised to be feeding children going to school but the 49,000 bags of rice were carted away by the very Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education (MBSSE).
Electricity is still a grave concern because the country cannot produce sufficient power grid to attract factories and companies investors to do business in the country. But President Bio keeps telling the masses that he will light up the whole country if he is given a second try when his Minister of Energy cannot manage and upgrade the available energy left by his predecessor former president Ernest Bai Koroma.
The shortage and poor supply of pipe borne water is again a big challenge that President Bio promised to solve if given the chance to rule. But people residing in the western urban areas are drinking water fetched from boreholes due to rampant scarcity of pipe born water. Children stay out late at night just to fetch pipe-borne water for their homes as most of these children are girls who have got unwanted pregnancies out of the scarcity of essential basic service that President Bio has failed to make available to the masses.
Another promise that President Bio failed to fulfill is youth unemployment as nearly 70-80% of the youthful population is unemployed. And these youth are most engage in self-employment in riding rickshaw and motor-bikes. President Bio promised to bring investors of factories and companies to invest in order to create hundreds of thousands of jobs for the youth.
On transportation, President Bio averred that he will make transportation a thing of the past by making it very seamless. He promised to bring buses not only for school children but for those plying the far end of the country after their daily hustle in town.
Most of what President Bio told the people that he will do he could not accomplish. And asking for a second term of office is a mere sycophancy from the populace.
