It is always said that institutions are not made by themselves, but rather people made institutions to become better and develop.
In order to achieve that, such an institution must have people with good vision and determination.
The Local Unit Commander Chief Superintendent Sahr Nyuma who has been in office just ten month has helped to bridge the imbalance between the civil populace and the police in Lungi and in order to achieve such goal, the police boss has embarked on high community policing strategy.
In a snap interview with the Local Unit Commander, CSP Sahr Nyuma said his administration believe in taking the police to the community. And in that direction, he has embarked on community outreach policing programme in schools, Ataya base, entertainment centres, bars, guest house owners and cultural and traditional initiators.
CSP Nyuma said he has dialogued with them in a bid to let them understand their policing policies so that peace will stand in our communities most especially when elections are around the corner.
Dilating further, he said that he has reached out to the Paramount Chiefs in Loko Masama, Kamasondo and Kafu Bullom including all the Section Chiefs and Labour masters that work in the various crossing points at Bailoh, Gbinti Wallah, Conakry `De among others in Lungi since these areas are highly involved in boat activities both day and night.
The Chiefs, CSP Nyuma said are custodian of their various communities because they know and understand their people better and above all, Lungi is partially an Island where smuggling is not new, adding that they will continue to work tirelessly so that the government will be able to generate the requisite revenue for national development.
CSP Nyuma said in a bid to help strengthen all these strides been made by him and his team, he has embarked on re-activating the Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB) elections which he said has to be done in the three chiefdoms successfully in Lungi which are Kaffu Bullom, Kamasondo and Loko masama respectively.
CSP Sahr Nyuma said the police are quite aware of coming elections around the corner, adding that Lungi is a very strategic area being the gateway to the outside world and, therefore due to its strategic location, he and his team have met with a cross section of the politicians especially those in the big political parties for them to know that the police have a duty to protect lives and properties and to ensure that peace is maintained and therefore as politicians they should go by the dictate of the election lay down rules and regulations.
Dilating further, CSP Nyuma said due to his proactive administration with his team especially Labour masters they have many successes in combating smuggling activities. Quiet recently, a large cetch of boards was arrested in one of the crossing point which is still parked at the station.
Asked what mechanism he has put in place to reduce lawlessness perpetuated by motor-bike riders in Lungi, CSP Nyuma said the first thing he did when he was appointed to serve as LUC was to identify all the parks in Lungi and held meetings with both Chairmen of the Motor drivers’ union and Bike riders union. Since the riders were having one common slogan which is “U touch wan U touch all.” He said this slogan have been used to attack motorist whenever there is an accident but said it is now a thing of the past as he has put mechanisms in place.
Asked about his vision, CSP Nyuma said his vision is to ensure discipline, land marks since he is quite aware he now have landmarks like community hall at the police station has been purely given a facelift by him and above all to ensure that strategic development plan for the SLP is maintained as this plan always entrust the annual work plan which the police always work with.
