Allegations against the road state agency, SLRSA on its mishandling of some huge funds are said to be largely “untrue,” says a civil society.
The claims made against the country’s road safety agency lacked “facts,” according to report by a civil society called National Consortium on Public Accountability (NCPA).
Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) is accused of depositing some amounts of money to Union Trust Bank (UTB) branch in Kenema, east of Sierra Leone, and that such monies have been mismanaged by the road safety agency.
These accusations are being inflamed by certain media houses in connection to the latest Audit Report by Audit Service Sierra Leone. However, the civil society organization (NCPA ) has strongly challenged the allegations made against the road safety agency, saying that the agency is corrupt-free on the said matter involving some money allegedly deposited to a UTB account.
The civil society had earlier issued out a statement after it said it had conducted special investigations into the matter.
In its statement NCPA said: “We analyzed the report and engaged the key players whose names were mentioned in the report. We engaged the director of finance, executive director and SLRSA-Kenema branch about the authenticity of the report,” the statement reads in part.
The civil society said the UTB bank told them that SLe 212,700 was in their possession but that documents were being processed before payments could be made to SLRSA’s accounts.
The civil society advocates had refuted claims made by some media houses of the 12 billion, 873 million, 855 thousand being misused by SLRSA — which was deposited at a UTB’s account in Kenema.
