Iceland has promised to boost Sierra Leone’s fishing industry by helping the country to exports its marine products to Europe.
In a special visit by Iceland Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Madam Asdis Bjarnadottir, said they are ready to promote Sierra Leone’s fishing industry and in other development ventures.
The visit was made by Iceland’s ambassador to Sierra Leone’s parliament just few days ago.
She said since Iceland’s fishery sector and tourism hospitality account for the highest in revenue collection, they would ensure that the partnership between Iceland and Sierra Leone becomes a win-win situation.
“I see such great potentials in the partnership between Sierra Leone and Iceland,” she said.
Madam Bjarnadottir praised Sierra Leone as having huge potentials to influence her tourism boom, thus creating jobs for many people.

It is hoped that many Sierra Leoneans will be gainfully employed if partners and more government support are given to the fishing industry. Previous reports indicate that Sierra Leone’s fisheries resources is estimated USD 735 as per economic value, while fish catch with first sale valued over USD 200 million in a year, according to FAO’s report with data updated between 2019-20.
