As non-payment of salaries continues in government institutions, stadium workers set for massive peaceful protest for wages and conditions of service. The stadium management is deeply under fire as front line workers sometimes go home unpaid for several months, while senior staff appointees at stadium and others are without salaries.
Speaking to Africa24 newspaper on condition of anonymity a staff explained that the stadium management is running out of cash at the moment and has unable to pay their staff. “It is serious that we are not scared to hold government and his political appointees accountable. Our salaries continue to be managed by poor administrators over the years.
We are tired with promises, the management is threatening us to sign the register and come for work every day without net pay’ he said.
He further disclosed to this medium that the conditions of service are highly appalling, adding that much is expected from government to salvage their issues with utmost seriousness due to the economic situation in the country.
In another development, the Minister of Sport, Augusta James-Teima appealed to stadium workers to exercise patience, noting that the problem of stadium staff will be resolved soon. “Your problem will be addressed, just have confidence and trust in me as your mother and sister’ she promised.
However some workers expressed doubt as to when this situation will be settled because schools are on the verge to re-open and parents are without money to send their kids for the 2023/24 academic year. Commodities at the market are skyrocketing by the minute.
