Opposition Member of Parliament from Tonkolili District, Hon Jawa Sesay, has on January 12th 2024 commissioned and turned the sod marking the beginning of the construction of a health center and secondary school in Buyan section, Sambaia Chiefdom, in the northern district of Tonkolili.
The secondary school’s project at Kombadugu village and the construction of a health center at Konkorobaya are two of the APC lawmaker’s developmental projects for his constituency 052 residents in the Sambaia chiefdom standing to benefit Kalanthuba and Dasogoia chiefdoms.
The symbolic occasion was witnessed by some high-ranking members of the opposition including chiefdom stakeholders.
Addressing constituents and participants during the occasion, the APC MP said, Buyan section which hosted both projects is one of the deplorable communities in Tonkolili District and that it has been deprived of many social services for a long period of time.
The section comprising 33 villages is without a secondary school plus a health center.
And lack of this development has affected residents there in diverse ways.
“It’s as a result of these lapses that I’ve pushed hard to seeing that these projects become a reality to ease the burden on my people,” Hon Sesay stated.
The lawmaker further said that he had caught a glimpse of the problem during his campaign, and he vowed to alleviate it straight away.
He reassured his constituents that he would make sure the two projects would soon be completed.
Upon completion of both projects, on this, Hon Sesay said, the school-going pupils will not be going to other sections or other parts of the chiefdom to access secondary school education after passing their National Primary School Examination (NPSE).
The MP enunciated that the pregnant women and lactating mothers too will get a sigh of relief upon completion of the health center in that chiefdom.
The projects, he said, are sponsored by him, but, he however called likeminded sons and daughters of the land to step in to help whenever such a need arises.
Section chief of the Buyan section, Musa Tholley, described the occasion and both projects as historic and expressed happiness that such development had happened during his reign as the head of the section.
On behalf of the section and his people, the chief thanked the lawmaker and the APC party for the exemplary leadership exhibited.
Over the years, Chief Tholley, said his people have been challenged by the absence of both the secondary school and the hospital and it has been their longing cries ever since.
“Today is the beginning of a new era in our community and we want to appreciate our son, the MP, and the APC party for wiping tears from our eyes,” the section chief stated.
Among those who made meaningful statements were Abdul Kargbo, Minority Leader in the House of Parliament and senior member of the main opposition, Hon Aruna Papay Larkoh, the Tonkolili District Council Chairperson – Madam Yabom Sesay, and other dignitaries.
Speaker after speaker expressed happiness for Hon Jaward Sesay to be taking such a development to his people at a time his country is faced with a deep economic crisis.
