The Wise Bird loves education; that is more the reason the brave bird has been flying from school to school to enquire especially when he got the news that government has deliberately failed to pay schools subsidies.
The patriotic, fearless and uncompromising bird has the greatest respect for teachers. This is simply because minus teachers, the President, Minister of Education and all other Ministers, these people would not have been where they are today.
So, plus or minus teachers deserve all the respect in the world. The Wise Bird became very upset when he got the news and subsequently saw a letter dated 22nd April, 2024 from the social media addressed to the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, signed by the Secretary General of SLTU Mr. Morris S. Conteh.
The Wise Bird took time to read the letter to be able to understand its content.
According to the letter, the Secretary General got directives from the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Union to write the said letter to draw the attention of the Minister for the non-payment of school fee subsidies, for second and third terms.
What the Wise Bird loves most in the letter is that, if the Ministry, by extension, fails to promptly settle these outstanding financial obligations, couldn’t it jeopardize the smooth and successful implementation of the Free Quality Education (FQE)?
Upon hearing what the letter says, the Wise Bird was quick to come to the realization that the government has little or no respect for the teachers and the Free Quality Education which they campaigned with during the 2018 and 2023 general elections.
If today, the government cannot pay subsidies to schools, then the Ministry and by extension the government do not worth its salt.
The most respected animal does not wish for any government to play-toy with education or to take the Ministry as a second option.
The Wise Bird is up-to-date very angry as the government is still not being able to put ideas together to pay subsidies to schools.
The Wise Bird will only be confortable if the teachers are treated with the seriousness they deserve.
The brave bird only hope that the situation will be put under control soonest, as the Wise Bird will follow up on the situation.
Bra Parrot has tried to get on to the Minister of Education but all to no avail.
