Many Sierra Leoneans are still soliciting government to relocate the refuse dump site (Bumeh) at Bai Bureh Road which has not only become an eyesore but an old death trap to city dwellers because of the numerous health hazards associated with its location coupled with other looming traffic dangers as a result of the old culvert in that area which is like a cadaver as the underneath soil has been eroded by constant flooding during the rains.
The issue of relocation has not only been limited to national issue, but has also caught the attention of the international world where a visiting UN rapporteur some time ago, recommended to government of Sierra Leone for the relocation of the Bumeh dumping site. But since that time nothing positive about it has been done even though the problem is still adding as a result of concentration of businesses centers in that area.
As the adage maintains “a stich in time saves nine.” This can be a salient advice that government should be proactive rather than reactive to save lives before the danger occurs as it is visible to city dwellers who know the location of the Bai Bureh Road Bumeh dumping site.
