As Negative gripping events unfold in the FA Cup final over the weekend at the Port Loko city, the National Sports Authority (NSA) has strongly condemned the unfortunate incident that overshadowed the FA Cup final clash between Bo Rangers and East End Lions at the Port Loko Field on Saturday, May 4th, 2024.
The NSA expressed deep concern over the unsports-manlike behavior displayed during the match and emphasized its firm stance against all forms of violence in sports.
In a statement issued shortly after the incident, NSA reiterated its commitment to promoting sportsmanship and unity among the people of the country.
The sports body emphasized that sports should serve as a platform for fostering camaraderie and healthy competition, rather than being marred by acts of violence.
“We are deeply troubled by the unfortunate events that transpired during the FA Cup Final,” said a spokesperson for the NSA.
“As an authority, we vehemently denounced any form of violence in sports.” “Such behavior has no place on the field, and it goes against the principles of fair play and respect.”
NSA has further emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the incident and urged the relevant authorities to expedite the process and make their findings public. The authorizing body underscores the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions and will ensure that those incidents are never repeated in the future.
Highlighting the significance of fair play and integrity in sports, NSA called upon the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to take decisive action in response to the incident.
The authorities urged SLFA to consider relocating the remainder of the FA Cup final to a neutral venue to ensure the safety of players, officials, and spectators alike.
“We urge the SLFA to act swiftly and decisively in addressing this matter,” NSA emphasized.
“It is imperative that the remaining matches of the FA Cup are conducted in a safe and secure environment which is free from any threats of violence or disruption.”
According to Mohamed Kamara, a fan of Bo Rangers, he said the situation was sad due to the un-sportsmanship attitude demonstrated by supporters and football administrators at the newly constructed artificial turf in Port Loko town.
