Pharmacy Board in Sierra Leone in its press release stated that the herbal drink called Coco Samba is not legally registered with the board.
The board is now calling the attention of the general public to beome aware of the ‘illegal circulation’ of the said herbal product.
Pharmacy Board Sierra Leone has made an urgent call for health authorities and regulators in Sierra Leone to conduct a proper medical check on the contents of Coco Samba herbal beverage.
The herbal, according to our close source, is imported into Sierra Leone from Nigeria.
Speaking to a health practitioner whose name is withheld, the doctor in Freetown, said some of these herbal products have variety of mixtures, and alerts Sierra Leoneans that, sometimes these mixtures are harmful for consumption and when their contents are not authenticated they may lead to health implications.
“They can cause kidney or liver damage plus other health implications, ” he disclosed.
The medical practioner continued that some herbal medicines can cause kidney failure and liver damage in some consumers as they contain toxic chemicals which would made them react harmfully when taking with other drugs.
He said there should be a specialized lab or department to be testing some of the herbal medicines before making them available in the markets for sale.
He said legal action should be considered when such company, outlets and people selling these products failed to comply with State’s medical regulations.
Speaking to Abdulai Jalloh who has used the said herbal, he told this medium that Coco Sambas medicine is known for men.
He said those he referred as ‘tough men’ only think the herbal is meant to arose sexual desire.
But Jalloh said the medicine is also good to cure stomach ache.
Pharmacy Board Sierra Leone has mounted its investigation and has vowed to inform the general public about the status of Coco Sambas drug in the country.
